Asbestos abatement & construction project
Bowie High School was built in 1965. The building is over 100,000 square feet. Currently over 2573 students are enrolled in the school. Bowie HS is considered one of the larger high schools in Prince George’s County. What made SanDow’s project unique was the amount of work that had to be performed in a very tight work window. There was some mention early on in the planning of the project to perform the scope of work in two phases, one in the summer of 2018 & the second in the summer of 2019. To complete the project in one phase vs two, SanDow increased the staff on the project to 126 people and worked two shifts, 18 hours per day. SanDow was contracted to perform this high profile select demo, asbestos abatement & construction project. The work had to be performed over the Summer 2018 break (June 22 – Aug. 25th). SanDow’s scope included abatement of over 85,000 sf of acoustical ceiling tile, over 100,000 sf of asbestos containing material (acm) sprayed on fireproofing, select acm pipe & duct insulation as well as acm floor tile & mastic. SanDow also replaced & installed new carpeting, replaced the existing lighting fixtures & bulbs for Lo-profile LED fixtures as well as painted throughout the school. SanDow employed over 126 employees & subcontractors. The project was completed on schedule.
